The majority of epiretinal membranes (ERM) are idiopathic and occur in people over the age of 50yrs. Presentation is usually with a mild drop in central vision +/- metamorphopsia (distortion). Other secondary causes of ERM include retinal vein occlusion, uveitis, intraocular surgery and retinal breaks.
